Slow loading Jpegs from W98 N/Work PC

I have 2 xp systems and a Windows 98 machine all hooked up to the same router accessing internet and sharing printers and drives etc. My windows 98 system has a shared file with some jpegs in it. One of the xp systems takes a huge amount of time trying to open these jpegs. If i attempt to view thumbnails in Windows Explorer the thing takes about 10 minutes to load. There are only about 30 jpegs in this folder. The other XP system can access these files very quickley. The system that is having the problem has twice as much RAM as the system that is not having the problem. 512 mb

Try this:

Copy the JPEGs to the XP machine that loads them quickly, and share them.

Try to access those JPEGs from the XP machine with the problem, and see if they go
slowly.

If it is a wired network, try swapping the cables around and see if you get any changes.

Try running the XP machine with problems in "Safe Mode with Networking" and see if
it acts any different.

These troubleshooting steps will test for any problems physically (wires) and any
interference of software (Anti-virus scanning the files coming in).

Thanks for the advice...I tried replacing the patch cable and booting the slow loading xp system into safe mode that did not resolve the issue. I do not really want the jpegs on the other xp system. The files load quickley it just when I go to view thumbnails the pictures take a very long time to load.

I might have been unclear. I meant to copy the files to the other XP System just
to troubleshoot. This way we can make sure its just related to the one system
having the problems.

Is the actual transfer of files taking a long time, or just the loading of thumbnails
once they are transferred?

I am copying the folder (14mb) over to xp but it seems to be taking a long time again over 10 minutes. When I open the folder it opens quickley and the files show up fast but when I try to preview them they are very slow opening.

Does the XP machine with problems have the latest Service Pack and updates?

Take a look at this link, it might be the problem you are having.
