Can't boot anything, XP, BartPE, XP Install CDZ, Ghost recovery

My Dell Dimension 4100 is seriously broke, continually reboots when I try to boot
XP Pro.
Get a blue screen STOP when I try to boot my BartPE CD.
When I try to boot the Symantec Recover Disk, it loads and gets as far as the "Please
wait" message, then the screen clears and stays dark, don't get anything more.
If I boot my XP Install CD, it gets to the point where it says press F6 is you need
to install a 3rd party SCSI driver, then the info line at the bottom of the screen
displays garbage, random characters and glyphs, then I get a message that says file
\i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7.
I've run the built in DELL IDE diagnostic (Ctr+Alt+D when Dell logo first appears)
and drive 0 and 1 both passed.
Also, when the system reboots while XP is booting, I end up with the long, slow boot
where the memory counts up to 512MB, even though I've set it many times to Quick
boot.
I've removed both 256MB sticks of ram, one at a time and the symptoms did not change.
I'm going to pull all other cards except my ATI Radeon and see what happens.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

I didn't mean to just throw a link at you, Rich. I thought it may be a place to start.
As far as I know, drivers, overheating and memory problems are the main causes for
continual rebooting.

Not a problem Carol, it was a good link. Didn't help :-) but a good link none the
less. I did get a ACPI error message booting BartPE so it sort of ties in but pressing
F7 didn't help, still got the ntkrnlmp.exe failure message.
I was so focused on the other problems I never even searched for that. Amazing how
tunnel vision works hey?
I'll take the system into the shop where I volunteer tomorrow and see what I can
figure out. That will allow me to swap out the video card which I'm suspecting is
the problem.
I pulled everything else I could but still had the same failure so that narrows it
down to the video, cpu or system board. If either of the latter then it's time for
a new system or at least a new mobo/cpu though I don't know how much success I'd
have trying to upgrade a Dell Dimension 4100 case with a new mobo as the only ports
on it are Serial/Parallel, 2 USB 1.1, Keyboard and M=ouse. Everything else has to
be a PCI/AGP card. New system may be the best way to go.

I don't see how it could be a driver as XP Pro, BartPE, Symantec Recover CD all
fail. ALmost has to be hardware unfortunately. Will know for sure tomorrow.
Thanks

Well, I'm not good for much but a Google search, when it comes to something like
this. :-) Here's another article on it. Anyway, good luck. I hope it's something
simple.
Cause
There are incorrect settings in the computer's basic input/output system (BIOS) configuration.
-or-
One or more of the random access memory (RAM) modules that is installed on the computer
is faulty.

might try removing/reinstalling or replacing the battery on the motherboard. This
will reset the bios, and may do the trick. If not, i'd suggest testing the power
supply...

Hardware problem. Has to be. Couldn;t tell you what, though. I had a computer yesterday
that you could plug in a PS/2 mouse and the hard drive would disappear. That took
a couple hours to figure out.

Falcon's cleanup
Took it into the shop today, removed all cards, replaced ATI Radeon AGP card with
a PCI Video card, still failed same way.
Removed each stick of memory (256MB) one at a time, same problem.
replaced CMOS battery, same problem.
The only thing left is system board and CPU. I order a replacement board from Dell
for $149 (includes s/h and Fla tax), should be here in 4-5 days. Could have got
it cheaper other places but they don't have the 90 day warranty. If that doesn't
fix it I'll replace the CPU for $100 (includes s/h and Fla tax). Cheaper than buying
a new system which is what I'd really like to do but can't afford right now. Have
to start saving my pennies again I guess :-)
Thanks for all the ideas. I'll post results here in this thread when I replace the
system board.

No, did not have one to replace it with. I don't see how this could be a PS problem
though, can you explain why this might be the case? Thanks

New Mobo resolved problem. I ordered it yesterday around 4PM, requested 3-5 day deliveryand
it got here today about 10AM. Dell did good for me on this one.
Only problem I had was BIOS did not detect 2nd HD. Had to reset to defaults then
all was okay.
