External or internal floppy drive? Has it been detectable previously? If internal
is it recognised in BIOS? If external and USB is the USB port working for other devices?

At boot-up you have an option to go into your BIOS. Usually DEL key and F-key. You
may find your BIOS has floppy drive support switched off- a fairly common problem.
