Are you sure you have the power to the motherboard connected? if the power supply
checks out you could have a bad motherboard.

Generally speaking, if the computer comes on to the point where you can see the BIOS
settings on the screen and the CPU heat sink fan is spinning, any power difficulties
to other components would first cast doubt upon the power supply, not the motherboard.
So if the BIOS setup program is being displayed on the monitor and there is no power
to the CDROM (no front LED, no drawer activity when the open drawer button is pressed),
then try using a different power lead and Molex connector (the 1" wide white connector
with four wires).

I have tried with the 300W power supply unit in the tower , I have also taken this
out and replaced it with a 400w power supply from another machine i have , the 400w
supply works fine in the other machine and so i assumed it would work ok in this
one , the machine does access bios however the display mentioned earlier about no
master devices being found might suggest a problem with the board as i have tried
another more powerful supply , sorry to be pest but this is doing my head in and
i am frustrated to the point of remodelling the old pc with a 16lb sledgehammer .

I'm running exactly the same motherboard on this PC, I fitted it about 4 months ago.
What jumper settings have you changed? Have you got the IDE cables the right way
around?

This may be a silly question, but when you say you checked the power supply, did
you double check the power connectors that go directly from the power supply to the
drives to make sure they are securely connected? Are the connectors for the hard
drive and cd on the same leads as the smaller connector for the floppy?

It is quite possible that both the primary and secondary IDE channels on your new
motherboard are bad. By the way, you DO have the hard drive connected to the primary
channel and the CD-ROM connected to the secondary channel, right? If you purchased
the board from a reputable seller (NewEgg, ZipZoomFly, etc.) they will allow you
to R.M.A. the board and exchange it or get a refund for it. It is not uncommon to
receive a new motherboard that is defective, Carol!

hiya guys thanx for replies, yes weve checked everything, the power suply weve fitted
into machine to check it is a 400w power supply that runs my sons machine fine, swapped
everything around the two machines and nothing works on this board, weve fitted ide
cables to correct channels, jumper settings, followed motherboard instructions to
the letter and reckon those are fine to still no power to cd rom or hard drive connected
another hdd to new board and same thing cd rom and hdd get no power, beginning to
think that new board is goosed, taking it back to change it today, any more problems
ill be in touch, these small ANNOYANCES drive you mad dont they.
