Network Printer

Hi everyone. Another problem is I'm trying to add a printer to my network. I've
typed in the ip address and the name and still it doesn't find it. What am I doing
wrong? I chooe the "connect to printer via internet or home nework" and then typed
in the address in the URL box. I then get a message saying windows cannot connect
to the printer. Either the printer name was wrong or the specified path is wrong.
How do I actually find the correct path. I'm totally bamboozled. Thanks for
your help. I do not have a static ip address by the way. But the address I have
last for one day. I'm using a router.

How is this printer connected to the network? In xp you should be able to "browse"
to a connected printer in the "add printer" dialogue box. If the printer is not showing
there then there is a problem with how you have connected it. The simplest way to
connect a conventional printer is to attach it directly to another pc on the network
- enable print and file sharing and you should "see" it from other PC's on the network.
To connect a printer directly to the network can be troublesome, particularly if
the printer doesn't support direct network connection!!

Hi Malcolm
Thanks for that. I have a brother MFC410CN. It has LAN options. It's all auto.
I do not have a static ip address though. I can print to it from one pc. I
want to learn how to configure it properly - but it's such a pain.
