I have a question about Speed up the Start Menu:

i went in to regedit and changed the value to 50, it was on 198, when i restarted my sysyem wouldn't reboot,what gives?

i triedb safe mode and "norton go back took over, i reset to original value for fear of a crash.

So you are OK now, except the menu speed is too slow (as before)?
Hard to say what happened there - perhaps you didn't enter the registry edit correctly.
Try downloading TweakUI for XP and use it to change menu speed (as noted in the Win Ann article you mentioned)?

You must have edited the wrong key, or did something else wrong. Applying that tweak wouldn't cause a serious problem like that. You said the value was set to 198, but... if the default value is 400, how would it have gotten set to 198 in the first place?

In TweakUI for XP, look on its "Mouse" page or section for the menu speed slider.
