I get this message when starting my computer Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys I've tried to reboot with the XP original disc and can't even do that. Is my computer fried?

when you reboot with the original disc is your pc set to boot from cd first? Get into bios and check that first.

hmmm what was happening when this first started? Can you boot into safe mode (tapping F8 at bootup)? Can you get into bios, and if so, what is the boot order set at?

Is this a new install of XP or have you added hardware lately? I had the same problem when I when from XP Media to XP pro. I removed the disk partitions and formated to start clean and kept getting errors, this one the most often. Turns out one error was caused be an old modem that was non-XP compatible. The ntfs.sys not found or corrupt went away when I removed a recently added Ram module, so the RAM module was either damaged or non-XP compatible.
