Because most people that know what they are doing, do not want hidden files and folders
enabled.

yupp, but the same thing happens when you do as the guide tells - hiding the file.
So after all, it has the same effect as if you just make the folder hidden - much
faster, much easier and all the same as wasteless as the guide/tutorial says.
Anyway ..nice guide, but it's not useful as it is since thats the hard way to play
hide and seek with "My pictures"...

i deleted & stopped windows from creating my pictures folder, but it must have been
attached to my PICASA 2 picture program because it deleted the pics from there as
well. i tried system restore, but it didn't work. now my wife is very upset with
me, because all of our baby's pics were in this program. someone please help me get
them back preferably without doing a recovery. thanx

Look in the recycle bin, see if the My Pictures folder is there.
Otherwise you're probably to late to use any kind of recovery software but you could
try a program like Restoration:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html
Repair install WinXP /
Clean install WinXP
