Question about 'What to Throw Away'

I have a question about What
to Throw Away:
Is it safe to remove the hidden files when I do a search for the files mentioned
in this article? What about files that show up written in blue instead of the normal
black? I found files for all the way back to 2001 in some cases and none in others.
Also is it safe to delete folders and files left behind by programs that have now
been uninstalled?
Thanks for any help
Wanda

It is safe to throw away the files listed in the article, regardless of whether they
appear blue or black.
It is safe to remove folders from software that you have uninstalled.

That article is old, but the suggestion that it's safe to delete all .LOG files,
is inaccurate. While many log files can safely be deleted, it's NOT OK to delete
programs Install.log files. Those are needed in order to Uninstall the programs properly.
Otherwise, you'll need to reinstall them in order to Uninstall them.
It's safe to delete programs directories, if the associated programs have
been uninstalled. You can get rid of the intalled Hotfixes directories in this location.
They'll be in blue: C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB905915$.
That won't Uninstall the hotfixes, and those folders take up a lot of space needlessly.
Keep in mind, you won't be able to Uninstall them, if for some reason you decide
to later. So, when you install updates, leave those for a few weeks or so, just in
case.
NOTE: Do NOT delete their associated folders in this directory. Leave these alone...
C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$.

Okay, I'm sorry but you kind of lost me. What exactly do you mean by program directories?
In C:\Windows I don't have that folder. I have a bunch of hidden folders(some blue,
some black) there with different # , such as$NtuninstallallBK888302$. They contain
exe files, and dlls. Is this right? Also I seem to have more of those than what is
in the folder $hf_mig$ Is this right also. I also have some $NtuninstallallQ folders
with different #'s after the Q. Also except for the log files is is safe to delete
the other files mentioned in the article?

Programs directories... meaning the folders leftover from the programs you've uninstalled,
as Ricer said in reply to your question. They're not in Windows folder.
As for your other question, just read my response again and only delete folders in
that one directory. And, yes, those other file extensions mentioned in the article
are safe to delete.
