If it shows up there uninstall it and reboot. If it is not recognized there is it detected from the BIOS? You might try switching the master, slave jumpers around and also switching the drives locations on the IDE plugs. Some drives are just picky as to which wants to be master and slave. Are you using an 80 wire IDE cable? Sometimes upgrades will cause problems and you may have to do a clean install instead. Check the device manager and make sure you have a primary and secondary controller. Also if you have an Intel based board, you HAVE to install the ".inf" files for proper recognition by XP. If you have a VIA, Nvidia etc. you also need to install the "chipset" drivers so XP can converse properly with the system board.
