taskmanager

I cannot now open Taskmanager although it did work a week or so ago. I now get a
message "Taskmanager has been disabled by your adminstrator" (after Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
The Taskmanager button is also greyed on the Windows Security window (after Ctrl+Alt+Del)
I use a stand-alone PC (not part of a network) - so I guess I am the administrator
(never had to worry about this before!).
What actions do I need to take to get the Taskmanager back. I do not recall doing
anything to deliberately remove the functionality of this feature. I presume something
has set the Registry as the actual files are still there.
Anybody know how to do this? Thanks, Mike

Taskmanager may have been disabled in group policies.
Go to start/run and type gpedit.msc
Expand User Configuration - Administrative Templates - System and choose Ctrl-Alt-Del
Options. If the entry in the right pain is not "Not configured" change it to that.
Hopefully, that'll fix your problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do not have a file called gpedit.msc
I also note that I can no longer download files using IE (Works OK with Firefox)
Perhaps this is linked. I also tried renaming taskmgr.exe but I still get the same
message displayed when trying to run taskmanager.
I run Norton antivirus which constantly updated but still expect something like this.
TX - Mike

OK - try downloading a utility like FreshUI. Install it and go to Windows System/Other
and check Ctrl-Alt-Del options. You may be able to fix it there.
Though it sounds as if your windows install has become corrupted. Have you tried
a repair from your installation CD?
