Odd extra files with ",_" prefix?

Can anyone tell me why I get duplicate file names of saved files that have the prefix
",_" like ",_filename.doc"? Are these temporary files or database files? Can I delete
them? What purpose do they serve? How can I prevent them from appearing? Thanks.

Are you using WORD processor?
Normally temp files end in suffix temp.
To explore this further, have you been able to open one of these files by double
clicking on it. And if you have opened one, does it contain duplicate contents?

The files are much smaller than the originals. They will open and when you open
them they contain several lines of small boxes like you would see when a font isn't
present in your system or can't be displayed. There are usually a few actual letters
or numbers intersperced within all this.

It appears that the document is being saved in a format that is different to WORD.
Right click on one of the files, select properties and in the General tab see what
the document opens with.

I looked at properties on one of the Excel files. Under file type, it says Excel
Worksheet, but when you open it in Excel you get a message saying file format is
not recognized. Word files will open in word but look as though they are only a
few lines long and with an unrecognizable font. Mostly little rectangles. PDF files
say they are Acrobat files, but will not open in Acrobat.

I suspect that Word is corrupted. Try and save a new file of a word document. It
only needs to be of a few lines and see if it produces two saved files. If it does
then you will need to uninstall and reinstall Word.
As for gtting rid of those files beginning with a _ , do a search for _*.* and delete
them.
