Hi....hoping someone can help me out here please. When I go to rename say a .jpg or mp3 file a box comes up asking if I want to change it (which I've not had before). If I click yes the file then changes to .rar file. This only recently started happening. Any help would be much appreciated...thankyou

It sounds like when you are renaming the file that it is also trying to rename the file extension (ex: mypicture.jpg whereas .jpg is the file extension and changing the file to just mynewpicturename without an extension. You may want to try and rename by typing the file extension in the name such as mynewpicturename.jpg)

Thankyou CIT... yes that does work. Any reason for this type of thing to start happening all of a sudden ??

It sounds like maybe you previously had "Hide extensions for known file types" enabled and that somehow it got switched off. You can check for the option in Control Panel>Folder Options>View tab.
