Problems Installing Windows Media Player 10

I had what I thought was WMP9, already installed, since I have used it quite a bit, but found out I only had 8. A message kept coming up asking me if I wanted to install the newest version of WMP, and I said yes. I believe the download is o.k., but the installation always stops, by telling me a problem has been encountered, then I am automatically rolled back to my last WMP. Now, when I click on the WMP icon, all I get is this message, "An Internal Application error has occurred." I can't watch anything now. Please help me. Thanks!

Try uninstalling the old version and then installing version 10.

>I tried System Restore, and no luck. I click on WMP, and it says a new version is available. It went through the steps of downloading 10, and then after it "seemingly" installs, I still get that "An Internal Application Error has Occurred." This is really pissing me off!

Try start>run and type in the following lines, hitting OK after each:

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

I tried this, and no dice. I have been typing in the error message on Google, and some pages said the same thing you did, typing in those two things, and going to the Registry, etc. I have tried all of these and nothing works. I HATE MICROSOFT!

May just have to live with it. WMP is hard to fix when it goes bad. Actually each version of WMP is worse then the last version. I would just start using a good 3rd party Media player, the advantage is they are easy to fix if they have a problem, and they don't have all the Digital Rights Management that has turned WMP into the music Police when it works. I have been using WinAmp for many Computer Years, and it is simple easy to use, and lots of internet Support sites.

Thank you. I may just have to do just that. I found something on the Microsoft website that deals with the issue I am having, and if that doesn't work, I will try another music player. I hate Microsoft products, anyway.

Good Luck, if you decide to try WinAmp, I still like and use a older Version 2.95. WinAmp can be re skinned with many different fun skins, found online. I enjoy Internet radio when Web surfing, and WinAmp has Hundreds of Web radio Stations found in it's Library. I always had weird Buffering problems with Windows Media Player when listening to Internet radio, but for some reason no problems with WinAmp. WinAmp will also play a wider selection of Music formats, like ogg, and all the new lossless formats, which WMP won't touch. All software can go bad, and WinAmp can be reinstalled in about 2 minutes if a problem ever arises. If you get WMP fixed, just save it for the Occasional Video Stream that will only open with WMP. That is what WMP is really for. WMP is just not durable enough for heavy everyday Media use.
