Can you tell us when it started and are there any error messages? Did you install
any new programs?
Since you cannot get to your OS then the best thing that you can do is run a repair
using the guidelines as outlined here.

Andrew, My daughter had a problem with her computer in that it wouldn't start beyond the windows xp screen. What caused this were numerous viruses she picked up using music download sites. When windows xp freezes, press ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager then click on processes. You should find drwtsn32 as a process. drwtsn32 is the error reporting software microsoft uses and it may be stopping windows from going beyond an error point in wndows startup. Right click on drwtsn32 and delete drwtsn32 from the process list. Hopefully windows will then continue with its startup and get you to the desktop. Also, when in the task manager and process list, write down process names that seem strange and use google to search on these names. You may find that viruses and adware is starting with windows and bollixing it up. If you see strange process names that aren't found through googling, these are most likely hashed addresses windows has stored in it prefetch file. The prefetch file should be cleared every once in a while and deleting the contents of this file will take those hashed addresses away and clear some of the crap out of windows' process list. Also, to clear any viruses and adware from your computer, get the write-ups from symantec and use their instructions on removing these things. Good luck, wmckce.

Thanks for all you work - really like this site, el Jefe10.
