Denial of Service (DoS)

I have a DoS that stops me from getting onto AOL. The worm is named: "Veritas Netbackup
Shared Library BO". I was wondering if anybody has any idea on how to get this out
of the system.
Thanks for all you work - really like this site, el Jefe10.

Clarification requested

With so little information given in your message and possible mis-understanding of
terminology, let's clarify your situation.
-- You are a XP-Pro user?
-- Your computer is not a server?
-- You cannot get "onto AOL" - which means what exactly?
-- What other misbehavior, if any, are you having with your computer? Be specific.
-- Have you scanned your computer system for vires and malware, and if so, what were
the results?
FYI: what you called a "worm" is a security buffer overflow vulnerability discussed
at:

jcw - thank you for your response.
I am running windows xp home sp2.
My computer is not s server.
AOL starts up and gets all the way to checking the password. From there AOL drops
off due to Norton Anti-Virus closing the offending program (AOL) due to what it says
is a worm attack on the Veritas Netbackup Shared Library BO.
The desktop computer is not showing any other 'mis-behaviour'.
I have done a complete scan of the computer using the latest Norton Live Update software
(up until the time I couldn't get on the internet - two days ago.) As a note the
Norton AV scans the computer every other day. The results of the AV scan turnined
up nothing unusual.
I have checked the sites you recommended, problem is I don't see anything explicitly
names windows xp home pertaining to the 'fix'.
Thanks,
wmckce.

Try this . . .

First, reboot, and then empty the recycle bin, delete the temp files and temp
internet files for all user-accounts on the computer, and delete the temp files in
the Windows\Temp folder. (You may keep in the recycle bin or any folder for temp
files any files that you know to be safe.)
Disable or turn-off NAV's resident/active monitoring feature.
Make sure that your firewall is on and active.
Have all programs closed.
Now open your browser and try to connect to AOL - can you do it?

Hi jcw,
I did everything you suggested and i am now on line. i went to yhe nav site and
downloaded all the updates and installed them - problem still exists. My next step
is to try the windows updates, although this computer is on automatic update.
Thanks again for all your help - wmckce.

If your system is clean, and if you are not having any other problems, getting
NAV updates probably won't solve the problem, and getting MS updates certainly won't
solve the problem. The problem stems from NAV detecting a problem in connecting
to AOL, and you will need to explore those two entities (e.g. their respective tech
help and web-sites) for the solution, or keep your active resident monitoring feature
in NAV turned-off. I don't believe your problem is one directly with WinXP.

jcw - thanks for all the effort - not sure how the veritas shared library problem
actually affects the computer. The thing is acting normally and I continue to watch
the current version run and task processes. Again, thanks for all your help, wmckce.
