XP shuts down rather than restarts

Recently I've noticed that when I manually attempt to restart or when the installation
of something should result in an automatic restart, the system shuts down rather
than restarts, requiring a manual power on.

Has anyone encountered this or knows how to correct this?

Bassackward Mark. That's a restart when you try to shutdown. This is the exact opposite. I'd check BIOS setup carefully, especially the power settings. You may have it set to shutdown in all cases.
