Question about 'Uninstalling Windows'

CANNOT UNINSTALL!! Due to corruptions, viruses or whatever, I had to reinstall xp. Initially did a repair, did not complete, so in order to be able to use my computer again, I had to do a clean fresh reinstall. Now I have to choose between what system to boot from. But I cannot get rid of the old incomplete system. If I boot from that one, setup comes up wanting to complete iinstallation, which will not do because there are files missing and error messages that prevent it from completing. I cannot install antivirus software on my new system. I want to be able to get all my files/settings/programs, etc. from my old system into my new system. It's all in the same computer, same drive. I'm not a computer geek so I'm not really sure what I'm doing, all I know is that I've been messing with this for a week now, and I do one thing and another pops up! HELP! THANKS!

If you have been messing around with this for a week then there is a good chance
that you will need to do a clean install. But before you do that I would suggest
that you copy all your important data onto CDs/DVDs. You will need to boot off your
XP CD and follow the instructions. The suggestion made by the previous poster re
link is well worth following.
