Punishing it's customers :(

I have a comment about How
do I skip the Product Activation in Windows XP?:
Having just been through the reregistration process (P.S.> Never add a new hard drive
to XP, it makes you re-activate) I can tell you, not fun. I use my XP Home for
audio and video production, and physically do not have it connected to the internet.
Imagine my surprise to find out that after adding an external SATA drive, that windows
needs to re-authenticate. Of course it tells me that this happened several days
ago. After it has allready locked me out. Do they realize I have to use removable
drives for archiving and editing???? Do they realize that service pack 2 cripples
my non internet enabled computer? And of course I am endlessly removing the "Instant
Messanger" which seems to pop up with helpful hints in the middle of recording which
of course leaves me with glitches in the audio and lost frames in the video. I keep
removing it, and it keeps "Coming Back from the Dead". I'm currently moving all
of my production tools to Mac and Linux (Gentoo), which sadly means all of the great
software companies I love are also going to lose out on my business. *sigh*

You didn't just add a hard drive, you added a SATA controller as well, that's a major
change.
So why did you install SP2? I'm on thwe internet 7 x 24, and never have installed
SP2, or any of the other so called critical patches.
Also Messenger is easily disabled permanently, just shut down the service.
And instead of complaining about performance ask what can be done to improve it.

I have a couple Computers for Video Editing, I use removable Hard Drive Drawers in
the 5 1/2 inch Bays, each Computer has 2 Drawers, that allows you to remove Hard
Drives endlessly. XP seems to count the Control Card that the Drives Hook up
to, and not the Drives themselves for it's Hardware profile. Windows Messenger is
pretty easy to disable. A few thousand Web sites redundantly post the procedures
to disable it. It can be disabled, or just uninstalled.

Steve,
Thanks for the info on using the HDD Mobile Rack in XP.
I use them also, but am using Win2k and avoided XP because I thought there would
be an activation problem. John

I have 15 storage Drives that get swapped in and out of the bays on a regular basis
over the last couple years, and never had any problem with activation being triggered.

Ijust recently built a new pc and I noticed that when I put service pack 2 on it
causes problems for my internet connection. I do not like service pack 2 at all and
I do not like IE7it sucks. The question I need to ask is if I use a good firewall
and a good antivirus program will I have a problem using service pack 1?

if you'd start your own Thread ,you would probably get quite a Bit of Advice on Slipstreaming
SP2,on NOT using Internet Exploder7 etc. With the post being buried in an old Thread
it is much harder to get any anwers than on the Mainpage, where people can see your
Message.
