I have a question about Hide all Icons on the Desktop:

I couple of months ago I did as the above article said and changed the NoDesktop Value to '1' in the registry, now I want to restore my desktop to it's original condition BUT I have also tried doing as the above article suggests and leavinig the field empty, and I've tried changing it back to zero but no cigar.... OR DESKTOP!!! Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated Yours Dave

You should restore the registry from your backup. The article you read did not say the process was reversible or harmless.

Try the obvious. Right click on Desktop, select Arrange Icons then check the "Show
Desktop Icons" box.

Yeah great idea! Except for the fact that you can't right click your desktop when you have hidden it. Any other ideas?

Have you tried deleting the NoDesktop DWORD you created? You said you tried leaving it empty and setting it to 0 but not that you deleted. It's not normally there so that's what I would try next.

A bit of searching turned up this, maybe it will get your desktop back. http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1156264302

Reading through the entire thread, it sounds like setting the value to 0 should make the desktop reappear but it doesn't always work.

You could always create a new userid and copy data from the old id to the new one then delete the old one. See here for info: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811151
