PCI firewire card drivers won't install

I have a Mach Speed K8M8MS MB with an AMD 3700 64 xp cpu. I'm using win xp home.
My case has front firewire but the board did not have headers for it. I have tried
2 different PCI firewire cards with an internal pin header. I get the cards to show
in the device manager but can not get drivers installed. The drivers are not available
on cd. I was told by support that the drivers are basic windows drivers. I have tried
both cards in 3 different PCI slots. They were assigned an IRQ and IRQ was not shared.
I took both cards and tried on a different computer and they both worked.I have been
tinkering with this for about 3 months on and off and am very frustrated. Can anyone
PLEASE PLEASE HELP.
Thank you VERY much

If the card installs without the front Header being connected, then the Front case
port may have a problem. I have a case that did the same thing with a usb 2
port. It turned out the the cable to the Front Case port had a couple wires crossed.

didn't even get that far with it Steve. It is just in the pci slot showing in the
device manager but can not install drivers. So it isn't the fact of the front port
not working.

Not sure about what to check. I have put in a few firewire Cards on 32 bit systems,
and the Drivers just installed with no added effort.

so the device manager sees the cards.... yellow exclamation point next to the device
name? what name is the card? but i don't see why windows don't install its own
driver.

Is the card recognized as an OHCI compliant 1394 controller, or just as a mysterious
something that can't figure out what it is?
The only time I have ever had a card not be recognized when being plugged into a
functional PCI slot was a modem. It turned out that on this particular computer
which had been in service for a while and was a little dusty inside, some dust had
worked its way into the slot and was preventing contact on the "golden fingers" that
are responsible for transmitting the ID of the card.
So if you think that might be it, yank the card, give the chassis a REALLY good blowout
with compressed air, and it wouldn't hurt to run the golden fingers with a soft pencil
eraser too.

but did you check this about the plug and play driver section in device manager.
"Ahhhhh, very infuriating. Now it all works and I don't know why.
Here is what I did...
I re-installed the Firewire PCI card. I had never uninstalled the drivers
when I took the card out, so when I put it back they all appeared in the
device manager list with no balloons indicating new hardware had been
installed.
Then with the device manager open I selected "show hidden devices". I know,
I know, I committed the cardinal sin and didn't write down what I was
seeing... There was one driver in the "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" list that
had a yellow exclaimation point. It said something like "Intel SMbus 2.0".
I uninstalled it and rebooted figuring XP would reinstall the driver. It did
not.
So then I plugged the firewire cable into the camcorder and powered up in
the VCR mode. Lo and behold XP recognized the camcorder and Movie Maker
captured the video just fine."
So now I don't know if that Non-Plug and Play driver was the culprit or not.
I didn't change anything else.

their are no drivers to not uninstall, that is the problem, i can't get the drivers
in. As far as the non plug and play show hidded devices their isn't anything that
i 'd says has to do with the ieee1394 device.
