Question about 'How do I move the TaskBar and the Start Menu?'

I unlocked taskbars, I can move the boundary of the taskbar to fill half the screen,
and have been able to move the informational icons, but not the Start Button. With
care I can grab a spot to the upper right of the Start Button and move a "see through"
square across and down the screen, but nothing comes of it. I've tried to drag it
while holding down Ctrl, Shift, & Alt buttons. All to no avail. I've also rebooted
without a change. I've been told that it got moved by it being dragged. I didn't
knowingly do it. I sat down to use the computer and found the Start Button first
at the upper right and the clock plus the status ikons along the right side. I've
gotten it moved to the left, Start button at upper left. It seems to be stuck there
unrelated to any part of the taskbar that I can see or move. So, what's the answer?
Ed.

The way it's *supposed* to work is that you can move the (unlocked) taskbar, including
the start button, to any of the four edges of the screen, by clicking on a BLANK
portion of the task bar (close a few programs to open up some blank space on the
task bar), and dragging the whole thing to any edge. It should all snap into place.
You will NOT see the taskbar get "dragged" as you move it...but drag the cursor
all the way to another edge (top, bottom, left, right) and the task bar will jump
there when you release the mousebutton. Do NOT click on the EDGE of the taskbar
(so that your cursor looks like a two-headed arrow) -- that's for changing the taskbar's
size, not position.

Werner, you came to my aid! Things are back at the bottom of my screen as desired
-- except that the icons in the Notification area to the left of the clock now sit
in two rows. How do I get these icons to move? I tried closing or exiting them for
a fresh start, but four don't close and sit two above two. They were previously a
bunch in a row.

Warner, lo and behold, when I returned to the desktop from sending my previous note,
the stacked icons in the notification area reverted to their normal single line.
Just writing to you was magic! I don't know what was different now than when I was
perplexed. My need is gone, but you might still explain for me how this should work.
Thanks.
