when starting windows a black box comes up with chinise writing in it and a ok box after pressing ok windows boots up but every icon has changed to windows messager and no programs will boot as they all have no icon or a windows messager icon i am unable to run any cd or open any file as the file type just says exe type thank

Virus... You need to start your PC with an Antivirus Floppy or CD and clean it from 'outside' - without starting the probably infected Operating System. Regards Quasimodo
