Question about 'Stop Windows XP from creating the My Pictures folder'

I have a question about Stop Windows XP from creating the My Pictures folder:

I tired this a couple times now and it worked for awhile, but the folder still magically reappeared. Am I missing something? Does everybody else with XP able to do this? Thanks!

Mine are gone for good, because I use XP Lite

In XP Lite, you simply uncheck the "Default My Pictures" box in the Accessories column (as shown on the page I linked you to).

Some photo programs may not like it when the default My Pictures folder is not there. Years ago, when I used 98 Lite to remove the My Documents shell extension, PhotoSuite III would not even START! (you couldn't change its default start location from " (My Docs location) - My Documents - My Pictures", even from the Registry!!)

If you can adjust the default opening location of your photo programs (to where your photos are) before removing the Default My Pictures folder, you SHOULD be good to go...

Mark, just curious why you want to do this? Directories (folders) don't take up any
room.

Is it a control thing? One of those, "This is my computer and I want it the way I
want it"?

perhaps in a way that might be a small factor. But, mainly, I like taking photos and arrange/archive them by year, so I like to have my current year's photos only with my current files. I'd rather have Photos 06 and archive them at the end of the year. So, it's more a being organized thing. : )

I would create a Photos 06 folder at the same hierarchical level as My Pictures and
use it the way you want. Ignore My Pictures.

I work on a small screen ultralight and must remove as much clutter as possible. I too have had the My Photos, My Videos etc come back after a while. The hidden My Photos appears as My Photos.000. Pansy
