I believe that if you selected "manaul update" You could
then select only the upates you wanted, XP or other
applications.

Many apps have their own update capability, which is not affected by XP's.

Many "Guru"s recommend using the "Notify me but don't automatically download or install
them" Setting in
"Automatic Updates"; I, personally, am using the "Turn off Automatic Updates" Setting
.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I was referring to MS applications updates.
