Maybe you should have bought a legit copy instead of downloading a pirated version.

And this would be a genuine office 2003 download, or a ripped off version!

yes, a legal copy belonging to me, i do not appreciate your comment since it is not
true, all was well for two days, no problems, i uninstalled office 97, some other
stuff and the files changed somehow, i have been to this forum many times and gotten
help, you do sometimes jump to unfounded conclusions and have a bad attitude, if
you can help then help, in not i will uninstall it and try again

Hi Woody,
It's quite possible that by un-installing Office 97
somehow the Office 2003 files got corrupted.
If at all possible, try a System Restore. If there is stuff you want to safeguard from
being removed,
move it to any of the folders under Documents and Settings/User/ eg My Documents.
Things there are not restored to an earlier time.
Then take it step by step.First remove Office 97.
Check if things are still working fine.
Then uninstall the other ones that you did before.
Then install Office 2003.
If you want, set restore points before every un-install and install.
If you have made back-ups of your drive or just some files, restore them if necessary.

You can not download a legal copy of MS Office. So when you say that you did that,
it is only natural to assume that it is a pirated copy.

wrong terminology, downloaded it off of legal cd, installed it if you prefer, all
was fine, 2 days later uninstalled office 97, sometime later karen and e-sword would
not open correctly, i can probably system restore, prefer not to if fix is simple,
had this issue years ago, found fix in folder options, does not work this time

Hi,
It is obvious you've got some file association corruption.
What has helped me in the past is the following:
1.Run System File check Run > sfc /scannow
Doesn't always work but it would find some cross linked connections.
2.Check what file extensions the other programs use
and re-associate them with the respective programs.
Also check which file extensions Office 2003 is associated with.
3.Do a Registry search.Don't bother with XP's Registry Editor for that,it's totally
useless.
Just use it for editng only after you find the guilty entries using eg RegSeeker
or similar
http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
Type the name of the program in the "Finder" section. You'll get all the entries pertaining
to the program(s).
Look for the wrong values.
4.Do the same for Office 2003.
A good registry cleaner would find those values too.

One does not download from another local disk. One downloads from a remote computer.
Terminology is important for everyone to be on the same page.

Help yourself by providing the right information to begin with.

Just to clarify a bit more. Woody, there's a big difference in downloading and installing,
so it is important to use the right term. Many users download Office, even Windows,
and other products illegally from Warez sites. You download the installer but you
install the program, so it's not a matter of preference.

Hi Woody,
I'm sorry you did not try my advice in post
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1164206916#1164218344
There is not a single instance of corrupt file association that I could not fix using
this method.
I even go so far as to manually edit the entries under HKC Root in the Registry.
Anyway it's up to you :)
Good luck.
