Question about 'Change the icon for Internet Shortcuts'

I have a question about Change the icon for Internet Shortcuts:

Alright. Well. I have XP SP2. I am trying to change an internet shortcut, more specifically with the URL for Adobe Studio Exchange. I want to change the default shortcut icon to an .ico file I have for ASE. When I right-click the shortcut and select "change icon..." everything goes as planned...i browse to my icon and select it...click Ok, Ok, Apply...and it WILL NOT CHANGE. No matter what...it stays the default IE icon. It's pissing me off. If anyone can help it is very much appreciated. Thanks

I have a similar problem.
I was able to use my own icons until just recently.
Now no matter what I change it to it always comes up as the generic unknown file
type icon.
Hell! I'd settle for the IE icon at this point.

Try refreshing the icon cache by deleting the IconCache.db file from your profile
directory (usually /Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/Application Data).
It will be automatically recreated.

   1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Application Data
   2. Delete IconCache.db
   3. Reboot

If the problem persist, increase the icon cache size, using regedit

Start / Run enter regedit> and press OK
   Navigate to:
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
      MaxCachedIcons=4096 (it would be enough)
      then delete "ShellIconCache".

No that does not work, been there done that, this used to work, until some recent update or it may even be IE7, the change all .url works after the reg change but no ability to assign individual shortcut icon even tho it goes through the motions. I’m pissed off as well. Also default favicons has quit working as well. Faveorg.exe no longer works.
