Try going to the control panel then the Automatic Updates setting.
After that, hit Download Updates but dont install them. I think that should do it.

Try unchecking "Always check for IE updates" in Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing.

Yahoo is set as my home page, but it was ignoring this. I did a restore on my system
to 3 days ago, and now have auto updates for IE unchecked. Hopefully Microsoft wont
mess me up again!
