I'll bet you upgraded from a 9r/98/ME system though. Missing HIMEN.SYS is a 9x issue.
It would be a good idea to do a clean install of XP, and you may have no other choice
actually. I can't say for positive, but..

If you've upgraded to SP2, your original disk won't work for repair/reinstall.
It's such an odd error to see on this forum, but I guess it can happen. Skim through
this article, and you'll see instr. on what to do.

You know, I don't think my previous link is what you need. :( Sorry about that. I
was in a bit of a hurry.
There are quite a number of results on Google Groups. You may be able to replace
that file off your original disk, but it could be something else causing that error.
Too many possibilities, it looks like.

If all else fails, you can create a new XP CD slipstreamed with SP2 and do a Repair
Install, see if that fixes it. You'll need a system that has a CD burner and your
XP CD.
The simplest way to create a Bootable Windows XP Pro or Home
Installation CD Slipstreamed with SP2 is to use Autostreamer. You point to your XP
Pro CD, the SP2 Service Pack .exe file, give it a path to write the .iso file to
and off it goes.
In 5 or 10 minutes you have a .iso file that you can burn to CD with almost any
CD burner program you want to use. I used Roxio 7. Then you install using the new
CD.
Here is the link to Autostreamer:

You can download the SP2 .exe here:
