Strange Pausing in XP

Hi,
After I have left the screen for a while, the Windows screen saver comes on. When
I re-enter my password to unlock the screen, often the screen will draw except the
task bar will not be present, and, I will be unable to do anything.
The system seems to pause for like 15 or 30 seconds. Then it finally plays the login
music, draws the task bar and things continue normally.
But why the long pause after re-logging in???
