I have a question about Bypass
the "Connect To" Dialog Box:
Although I didn't see any comment about turning on autodial, the article does not
caution users about the risk of having autodial turned on.
There are malware programs, known as rogue dialers, that will make the computer automatically
dial whatever number is programmed into it. Commonly, those are overseas numbers.
If autodial is turned on and the user leaves their computer on when unattended,
they risk their computer dialing such a number and incurring telephone bills in the
thousands of dollars.
Therefore, it is highly recommended that autodial remain turned off.

what about a properly configured Firewal(Third Party in the Case of XP, Article
did not even mention that O/S),which blocks any unauthorized Outgoing Traffic?

Once you've authorized the dialer though, wouldn't that bypass the firewall or is
it capable of detecting when the dialer is called by another, unauthorized app?

why would I want to Authorise a Rogue Dialer?But then,of course, it would probably
make more sense NOT to use Automatic Dialing from a Security Point of view.

Sorry, my bad! I was thinking that the "rogue dialer" would use an existing dialer
that was already authorized, thus my question about firewall effectiveness. Probably
not what you or the originator were thinking.

A rogue dialer can hijack an existing dialer and replace the phone number with one
that is programmed into it. A firewall will not stop it.
Original point - leave autodial off.

Have you checked for which O/S's and when this Article was written? O.K!Complete
new Ballgame today.Not even sure if Dialers were of at that time of the things you're
ascribing to them now.Sure it is better to leave Automatic Dialing OFF in the Light
of present knowledge.Just remember,only Hindsight is 20/20.
