I just opened up My Pictures Folder looking for misplaced photos and there are over 3,400 files so I am unable to Hide this folder as detailed in the original post. Many of the files are system files. Thank you in advance

No,
But don't simply say "as detailed in the original post." We don't know what you wrote
in your "original post" and certainly aren't going to go to the trouble to look for
it. Either post add on comments as replies to the original, or at least paste a link
to the original post.

My apologies for not being more precise.. The original post I was referring to is actually the Stop Windows XP from creating the My Pictures Folder that I found while Googling "WinXP Hidden System Files My Pictures". Randal

That's still no help. I doubt that anyone here will take the time to search for your
post. You get what you pay for. We do this on a voluntary basis, and are happy to
help those who are willing to put in the effort to help themselves.

There isn't any origanal post. ALL I'm asking is what to do about My Pictures Folder being full of files.

"I just opened up My Pictures Folder looking for misplaced photos and there are over
3,400 files..."

To answer the question in your subject line...
There should be NO system files in your My Pictures folder, so something is very
wrong.

OK, don't worry about it. I understand. It was just rather confusing. Frankly, I'm
not familiar with all the articles on this site. You'd think I'd know them like the
back of my hand, since I've been around here for years... ha ha

If I recall, I used a registry hack to eliminate My Pics folder. I don't recall what,
at present. I'll have to check into that later, or someone else may know right off.

I know this isn't a solution to your problem, but more of a tip...It would be better
to create yourself some New folders in the root directory (normally C:) with appropriate
names. I use the number system for my GIFS. For example 1 Animals 2 birds and fish,
etc.

For my pics.. I have a folder named Family photos, for example with subfolders and
so on. I do the same with MIDI and MP3 files I saved. I don't use My Music folder
at all.

I don't know what/how those ended up there, so I don't know what to suggest, Randall. You may need to wait awhile for further input and advice (from others) on your dilemma.

How do you know they are system files?
Can you give a couple (as in 2 not 20 or 200) of examples?

Does that folder look somewhat like a "mirror" of your Windows\System32 directory?

Another question, do you think you're messing around with with the steps in that
article caused this?

A thought/suggestion, if you know when it first appeared this way, and have System
Restore enabled, I'd try a restore point prior to the problem.... maybe create a
New restore point first, in case things get worse.

First did a Search for Files .ini in My Pictures, included all system and hidden files. 82 objects found. Then just randomly right-clicked on 76.ini, Opened Containg Folder and premi001.cab Folder came up. Continued on diffrent .ini files and found that these files are in .cab folders. Did Search for .dll Fles. 180 objects found. Repeated for .dat Files. 226 objects found. Repeated for htm Files 336 objects found 73 .exe Files, 74 .bmp Files, 98 .jpg Files, 560 .gif Files, 129 .eml Files, 46 .vcf Files, 21 .sdq Files, 12 .bckp Files, 22 wpl Files, Application Files w/o extensions. Also Registry Files?: Here are just a few: 2BF68F4714092295550497DD56F57004 3C83474D61E624A4F9844DF935AFE217 4DB1DABDF57ED9997FE8DCC77E93C04F Had tried System Restore, have all Win Updates, virus scan everything (which isn't much) that I could think of. Regards, Randall
