Question about 'Change the icon for Internet Shortcuts'

I have a question about Change
the icon for Internet Shortcuts:
I think I found a solution for this problem. At first my apollogies for my spelling
because I come from Holland.
What I do for this problem is the following: First I don't make a shortcut directly
to the webpage (URL) but instead I SAVE the webpage (I want to make shotcut of) by
"file > Save as" and then save this webpage in whatever folder. Then I shut down
IE and go to my desktop. From my desktop I make a shortcut to the webpage I just
saved. This is mostly a .mht or an .html file. This icon you can change by usin the
rightclick on the icon and then go to "properties > change icon". I hope this will
solve the problem for you.

But you would then have to keep the Page in that Folder as Reference, otherwise the
Shortcut would revert to a Generic Icon?Quite a bit of useless Ballast to have on
the Machine, when you have a number of Shortcuts. Why not just save the Favicon and
be done with. There was a Program from PC-Magazin one time that used to let you do
that.
