I agree, that's just annoying. Very carefully delete the following 3 registry keys and the Groove evilness will disappear: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\XXX Groove GFS Context Menu Handler XXX HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\XXX Groove GFS Context Menu Handler XXX HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\XXX Groove GFS Context Menu Handler XXX

Removing those keys didn't work for me. The key that needs to be deleted is...

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\XXX Groove GFS Context Menu
Handler XXX

How can you work this out for yourself?
Run Sysinternals Regmon program (download free from Microsoft)
Use it to see which registry keys are read when you right click a folder.
Save the results.
Import them into Excel.
Sort by the column that contains the key names to get similar chunks of names together.
Do a search for "Groove" (or whatever is offending you on your right click context
menu).
Delete each key that looks like it might be the one - there are only ever 3 or 4.
Make a copy (export the key) of the keys just before you delete them.
Right click a folder in Windows Explorer just after you delete them to see if it's
fixed the problem.
If not, put the key back by double clicking the exported backup you made.
Repeat until the offending right click item is gone.

Note that they will often be in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex

Woops, sorry. You need to delete another key as well.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\XXX Groove GFS Context Menu
Handler XXX
MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\XXX Groove
GFS Context Menu Handler XXX

Another way is to use a context menu editing tool, like Fast Explorer. It was especially designed to help with sweeping out of unused static and dynamic menu items from Windows shell's context menus. You may find it more convenient instead of manual disturbing of the Registry. More info: http://thesoftpro.tripod.com/downloads/fe/

All this is all very fine for any of those who have downloaded sysinternals and want to feel cleber and enlightened. All that happens with these suggestions are slowdowns as the registry is checked each folder open. Groove GFS is STILL enabled - but missing resistry entries You can also do this in IE7: Tools-->Manage Add-Ins-->Enable or Disable Add-Ins Find the Groove GFS entry, and click disable. For all the registry molesters, do you have any idea what you have fiddled with? If you do, fine. Otherwise, read something more than the sysinternals install dialogue. There are REAL books on Windows you know. Big ones with little words and tables and stuff in them. Things some of us actually read.

Although the method you've given to to disable Groove is very useful,
the additional comments designed to insult aren't.
> want to feel cleber (sic) and enlightened The purpose of describing the method to get the keys isn't to feel clever or enlightened. If that is the motivation you believe you would have had, fine. Don't make the mistake of attributing your motivations to other people though. The purpose was to give a general method that allows more than one annoying item to be removed from the context menu, as well as to provide instructions that allow someone to do this themselves in case the key I mentioned is wrong, as it was for me when I tried the keys in the previous post.
