Question about 'What to Throw Away'

Is there some sort of software that can detect what is and is not safe to delete?
I am not very computer savvy, and I am concerned that I might remove a file(s) essential
to the continued well-being of my PC. I have a Dell Dimension E510, running Windows
XP. I would appreciate any advice you might be able to offer.
Thank You,
Maggie

I wouldn't worry about it, but a program like ccleaner will target the common junk
that builds up.

I'm sure it is. It just cleans all the known Junk, and History folders. I only use
the Junk Cleaner, and leave the the the registry Issues cleaner alone. You can also
make adjustments to what it targets for cleaning.
