Date doesn't always appear on mouseover

I have a question about How
do I display the date in the Tray (next to the clock)?:
The date doesn't always appear when I mouseover the clock/time display. I've noticed
this happens almost always when Outlook Express is the active window, and also if
I'm visiting a message board style forum. Other than that, I haven't noticed any
patterns to the appearance or non-appearance of the date upon mouseover of the clock/time
display. It just sometimes displays and sometimes doesn't (and I do wait many seconds
b4 giving up). Could this mouseover feature be somehow suppressed for certain programs
and/or websites? I know that double-clicking the clock/time display brings up a
calendar. And that's what I do if the mouseover doesn't work. But it would be so
nice if the mouseover worked all the time. Is there anything I can check which might
be broken, or maybe something just needs to be tweaked? Thank you very much.
Brynn

This might be happenening because the tooltip showing the date is actually hidden
behind the taskbar - one of XP's many quirks !
However, if that's it, there's a cure - run Tweak number 321 (left hand column) in

Martin, that does not fix the problem.
It's a long standing problem that MS has never fixed, either because they can't
or do not feel it's important enough to spend the time on.
Download this program, unzip and run it and your problem is solved:
http://mtec89net.com/ftp/FixXPToolTips.zip
Above link no longer good, use this one:
http://www.appcheck.net/AppDetails.aspx?Name=FixXPToolTips
You will have to run it when ever the date is hidden behind the taskbar. I placed
a copy of FixXPToolTipx.exe on my Quick launch tool bar so a single click on it fixes
the problem until it reoccurs.

Thank you all for your comments. Do I understand correctly, about the program offered
in the last reply, that it essentially needs to be run each time I want to see the
date? And by putting it in Quick Launch, it can be readily accessed?
But what about the program mentioned in the original article? It sounds like it
puts the date beside the time? So that it's visible all the time?
So is it basically a matter of personal choice, which one to use? Thanks again.

Thanks Rich. The fix in Kelly's Korner worked for me, but I see that it is not the
whole cure :-)
This is a good example of a genuine "annoyance" !

Definately a personal choice thing. As for running the program, you only need to
do it when the date doesn't show on mouse over. It shows most of the time for me
but when it doesn't, a single click fixes it (tiil the next time). I suspect this
is not something that can be fixed easily or MS would already have done so (MS, like
many other companies, loves easy fixes :=) ).

Hi again,
Oops, after some further searching, I've found several freeware programs which display
the date, along with the time. So now I'm wondering more specifically about the
program "TrayDate" -- does it allow for the date and/or time to be formatted with
different fonts, size, color, etc.? Or does it display the date like a Tool Tip?
Thanks again :-)

Here's the best free fix for the hidden tooltips problem. This fixes it for good,
and requires no intervention after it's installed. It runs as a service and requires
.NET 2.0, but otherwise has a relatively small footprint.
