Hi guys,

Just wanted to post a solution to a problem that ive been having with the Realtek 
ALC883 High Definition Audio device on my Asus P5-KC motherboard. On this board the 
audio is built in.

The problem, No Audio device was showing up in windows xp, sound was not working

After running the install program, the realtek sound mixer panel had happily installed, 
and was able to play demo sounds through the speakers, However the piece of junk 
that is windows, could not use the audio device.

I tried everything, disabling enabling the device in the bios of the motherboard, 
reinstalling the drivers, removing the drivers, different drivers, knowledge base 
fixes, scouring the net for the solution. The drivers were behaving like a virus, 
unable to remove, even in sfae mode, anytime i tried to re-install the driver i got 
an error message unable to install HD audio.... or something like that

I discovered the reason why it screwed up, during the installation of the realtek 
ALC883 High definition audio drivers, windows xp popped up a new device hardware 
wizard, "LEAVE this window ALONE", allow the realtek driver to finish the install 
and dont under any circumstances allow the hardware device wizard to install anything.

If you are at your wits end, the simplest and most effective solution is a complete 
re-install of windows, being very careful upon your next install of the audio driver 
to allow the realtek sound driver install to complete, and not to touch the hardware 
device wizard until it is finished.
