When I sign into my name, all I see is the mouse pointer and the background. I cant
press ctrl>alt>del because my task manager has been disabled by my administrator.

Just wanted to be sure. Since it it your computer, YOU are the Administrator!
What you have is a malware problem!
Does the "Windows Key" of the keyboard bring up the Start Menu?

Have you tried to boot to "Safe Mode?"
If you can, log into the ADMINISTRATOR account.

Cool! Now get this:http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/RRT-Remove-Ristrictions-Tool-Download-68926.html
It will restore your Taskmanager. Once Taskmanager is working again, use File>New
Task (RUN) and type: explorer.exe
Might not work in some cases, but it is worth a try. If it does work, your Taskbar
and Start menu will reappear. If not, use the "Run" feature of Taskmanager to go
here: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Must-Read-Before-Posting-Hijackthis-Log-t2852.html
After following all the instructions, post a HiJackThis log here: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Malware-Removal-HijackThis-Logs-Go-Here-f37.html
Free registration is required, but you will be helped by a trained malware removal
specialist.
Posting a HJT log elsewhere in the forum will only delay the help you need.
Good luck, and happy hunting.

Just type in iexplore.exe to run IE. then use it in the normal way. (or firefox.exe
or opera. exe--whatever you've got)

That's a good question.. what can I do. We have no way of knowing, whether you're
trying to bypass restrictions you have no right to. It doesn't seem likely that all
of sudden you'd get that type of message, when you try to logon.
Were you able to get past the desktop last time you booted up? If so, what was the
last thing done, had you made any changes? Have you tried last known Good Configuration?
Do you have System Restore enabled?
As far as I know, malware infections don't place those type of restrictions. It's
usually restrictions on accessing the Ctrl Panel, or your directories, i.e. Windows
Explorer.

Doc, we can't take anyone's word for it, that they're being truthful about that...
not ever. After all, anyone who's trying to bypass restrictions is going to lie about
it. They come to the forums all the time, but this info. can just as easily be found
online by using a search engine.
I'm not saying Andrea couldn't possibly be telling the truth, but we have no way
of knowing. You've gotta admit she's being quite vague about details.

maybe too simple, but possibly worth a try :
Desktop icons : right click on desktop, select "arrange icons by" then tick "show
desktop icons"
Taskbar : take cursor to bottom of screen, if changes to vertical arrows, left click
and drag upwards to make taskbar re-appear, right click taskbar and tick "lock the
taskbar"

I am having the same problem. It is a virus (worm) or backdoor trojan. The only
thing I can do is wipe my computer C drive clean. you lose all pictures and documents
but at least the computer is usable then.

The instructions at Geeks to Go explain how to use HiJackThis. Once registered there,
open a new topic in the proper section, explain your problem and what you have done
so far. "Paste" the log from Notepad into the thread. Bald Eagle: Yes, having
"Taskmanager disabled by Administrator" is a very common malware symptom these days.

lavon--please start your own thread. Difficult enough to work one problem per thread.
Thanks.

Andrea, if you have not been able to get Task Manager working, try this:
Use regedit to change the value of this key from 1 to 0.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
DisableTaskMgr from 1 to 0
