xp reboot problems after format

Hi
I have formatted my c drive and reinstalled all drivers, all fine. Installed windows
updates online. Then installed SP2 from a cd, installs fine. On reboot the system
takes 7 mins + to start up. I see the inital bios details, etc first (as normal),
then instead of going to the windows emblem and blue progress bar, the screen goes
black and after a minute or so, a white progress bar appears at the bottom and sits
there for about 6mins, gets half way along and then continues normally to desktop.
Everything seems to work ok except a seriously lengthy start up.
I have formatted again and again and reinstalled everything is fine until I install
SP2, same thing every time.
Please help
Thanks

If you are installing with an MS original CD without SP incorporated into it, it
is best to slipstream SP2 into the original install files and make a new install
CD that has SP2 in it already, then use Windows update to bring the system up to
date and add your drivers . Far less problems doing it that way than adding the
SP after the fact in my experience.
If you have access to a working machine with a CD burner and burning software you
can easily do it with Autostreamer. How to here and files:

That start-up does sound like hardware having a hard time initializing. SP2 is somehow
corrupting one (or more) drivers.
