utility to simulate keyboard activity

Hello -
I'm bedeviled by a well-meant but overkill (in my situation) security feature of
our corporate LAN. More than 10 minutes or so with no input from the keyboard or
mouse causes the user to be locked out, requiring a contol-alt-delete and password
re-entry to resume working. I can't disable this feature directly or remember to
just hit the spacebar every so often while doing other things. So every phone call
or visitor to the office means logging back in.
Does anyone here know of a utility that will run in the background, automatically
sending a simulated keystroke at some chosen interval to give this network nanny
what it needs?
Thanks

Just any network activity will be sufficient to keep the window open.
This little application should do the trick: Delayer
Set it to ping any network address every 5 minutes.

Quasimodo

I find the scripting tool AutoIt3 to be perfect for such things. I've done complex
things like global searches on craigslist and accessing SQL data, and simple things
like automating the login sequence after a reboot.
Sending a keystroke every minute would be a two or three line script.

Thanks to both for these suggestions. I'll give them a try.

Just a closing note to anyone with a similar issue whose future search may turn up
this thread. The Delayer app (see link in first response) works like a charm. The
PC or network does indeed interpret Delayer's periodic automatic runnning of some
command as user input from the keyboard and prevents the "lockdown on inactivity"
security feature from kicking in. Quasimodo's suggestion to have it ping some IP
address would probably be the best choice of command to run since it's a quick transient
operation that doesn't leave some program running. But anything Delayer starts that
you can shut down easily with a mouse click beats going through the whole password
thing.
