Monitor bad or not

Trash man is coming tonight - so before I toss the monitor out, thought I'd check
to make sure it's indeed died.
It's a 15" Gateway flat screen, 'bout 3 years old. When turned on, it flashes the
gateway logo and returns to a black screen, never more to be seen unless I shut down
and turn back on.
Hooked up 'puter to another monitor and it works so I know it's not the video card.
I suspect it's the backlight portion of the monitor that's bad, but wanna make sure
it's not just in sleep mode or hibernation, altho I use neither power options. Pushing
the setup buttons on the unit does nothing.
Appreciate any comments, before I toss it.
Thanks in advance . . . . frank

Just to rule things out, I would hook the "problem" monitor to the other computer
just to be on the safe side, normally a "Gateway" logo appears in the boot sequence,
so you are at least seeing "video" momentarily.....

Did that - got a quick box sayin' "power saving mode", then nothing.
Not really seein' the Gateway logo - just the above.
Thanks for the quick comeback

Try to find the manufacturer and model number. Look on the back. Post back here (or
google) with that information.
It is probably just a setting accessed through buttons on the monitor itself. If
you don't want to bother, or simply need an excuse to get a nice, new LCD, please
do not trash it. Call your local school/library/etc to donate it.

It's a Gateway FPD1530, and as indicated, can't access via buttons on the monitor
front.
Already upgraded to a 21" widescreen and was hopin' I could save monitor for a backup.

Start with the Self-Test: http://support.gateway.com/s/MONITOR
Troubleshooting (with PC) -- http://support.gateway.com/s/MONITOR/7005302/7005302nv.shtml
AUTO/SET button (far right). -- With the OSD inactive, press to automatically reset
the monitor to the correct resolution and color settings.
I would unplug the monitor for a time and then try this button with the PC off. If
still nothing, unplug the monitor again, then let the PC boot before trying the button
again. If still nothing, then yes, I would suspect a component in the monitor.
