Windows Installer Problem - Office 2003

For some reason each time I try to run my Windows Office 2003 programs, the windows installer program pops up. The program tells me that the program is not functioning properly and needs to be re-installed. Would not be a problem, however I have managed to loose the original CD and can't find the product key reference. MS say they can't help! I would appreciate any help, suggestions anyone has. Alternatively I do have my old MS office 2000 CD which I could re-install - can I still pick up my Outlook file using this? Many thanks Paul

it is not straightforward to go back from Outlook 2003 .pst files to Outlook 2000, but also not impossible. Please read this. However before taking such a drastic step as to uninstall Office 2003 I would post your problem about the updater at Woody's_Lounge. PS Did you try a system restore to before you experienced these issues ?

Many thanks, I've tried to post to Woody's lounge but keep getting "internal server error" message, have read the MS link you suggested but am unable to follow this advice as I cannot open MS Outlook 2003. Thanks anyway.

1. I have just successfully posted to Woody's Lounge - maybe you can try again ? 2. I appreciate that you cannot open Outlook 2003. However can you perhaps copy the .pst file to CD (maybe DVD if its BIG) and open it with Outlook 2003 on another PC - and follow the instructions to export it to the older .pst file format ? If you succeed, you would then be able to copy it back and open it from your Outlook 2000 installation. 3. I would persist a little longer with diagnosing the updater issue though ?

The magicaljellybean.com key finder will find Office keys as well as OS keys. Once you have the key you may be able to borrow someone elses (same version e.g. Pro vs. Small Business etc.) CD and reinstall using your key number.

Google can help you with this. I did a Google search for installer runs when I open outlook and got lots of hits. Many point an accusing finder at Norton.
