Say u have 1 HDD split 3-6 ways.......C+d.e.f.g.h.i.j etc....
Aslong as when reinstalling WinXP, during install it asks you where to install it.
Choose "C" and only C , should be in the clear.
Choose Format C to wipe C which had WinXP installed anyway, and reinstall on C drive/Partition.
Hope this helped.

If the motherboard is the same type as the old one, you should be fine.
If you are upgrading to a newer motherboard (different socket) with a new processor
and/or new RAM, then you will have to reinstall XP.
If the "C:" drive is a physically separate drive from the "E,F,and G" drive(s) then
disconnect the "E,F,and G" drive(s) and leave only the "C:" drive connected to the
motherboard.
You may have to change the jumper back to default on the "C:" drive.
If you have a single hard drive partitioned "C,E,F,and G" then follow TekNurds advice.
Good luck!

All the datas are stored on the HD so you won't lose them by changing the MB..Sometimes
changing MB won't affect the system that much.Did that last month MB&CPU without
the need to reinstal the XP but for a few new drivers.

Replace the motherboard on the first boot with it go into BIOS setup set the boot
order to CD first, then put your XP CD in the drive and reboot, right after the ram
count tap on the spacebar about once a second tap, tap, tap, to start windows installer
choose the second "R" option it comes just after the press F8 to agree the licence
terms choose to repair your existing XP install when it is almost done you will be
asked for the code from the COA after it is done you will need to reactivate Windows
but providing a period of longer than 120 days have elapsed since it was last activated
it will happen automatically
Scroll down to and click on "How to run a repair install" on this page for screen
shot pictures
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm
this method is pain free with no need to reinstall programs or loss of your data
the only thing you will lose is any Windows updates after SP1 or SP2 depending on
your XP CD
Cheers HC
