Bit Defender AV 2008 versus Kaspersky 7 versus Norton

I've been running Norton System Works 2005 for several years and it is time to move
on. I've read some good things about Bit Defender 2008 and Kaspersky 7 as compared
to Norton AV. Has anyone used either, and if you were running Norton, did you have
any problems with the uninstall and new installation? I understand a System Works
uninstall can leave a mess. Also, I've read good things about two utility packages:
Advanced System Optimizer 2.2 and System Mechanic 7. Both were rated as far superior
to System Works. Any comments?? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences. --

Your questions would be better posted on a security related forum, since Annoyances
just has Windows support forums.
All Norton products require some manual removal, in addition to running a removal
tool.

Go to the Norton (Symantec) website. Instructions for removing their products can
be found there (surprising?). I followed the instructions for removing Systemworks
2004 and cleared pretty much everything out, except for a NPROTECT folder.
See http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/1196386637 for a link relating this.

In addition to Ms Eagle's comments, in my experience "optimisation tools" don't do
much for XP.
Unless you have an obsession about tidiness I'd really leave your OS to manage itself.
Its the same as obsolete entries in Add/Remove programs - they don't do any harm
!
Its maybe more important to clear out peripheral stuff (temp files and the like)
than to mess with the Registry, and for that I'd recommend regular use of CCleaner.
