Cool OE6's backup enthusiasm

Is there any way to cool OE6's jets when it comes to creating backup files? I already
have a large "sent" and "inbox" file but I can't seem to stop OE6 from creating "sent.bak"
and "inbox.bak" files which take up even more space. I know I can delete them but
I would like to stop OE6 from recreating them as soon as I delete them. -Brock

Those .bak files are created when OE compacts messages. Check your settings to find
out if compact messages in bkgrd. is selected. I find no such setting in my OE, but
it may be different if you don't have SP2 installed?
