Screen resolution - set by hotkey/script?

Is there a way to shorten the following commands to running a script ala:
control
panel/display/settings/screen resolution/1280x1024?
Can this be scripted and/or
attached to a control key combination?

Your video card driver may put an icon in the tray that allows for easily changing
these values. Mine does.

In the PCs I manage they are all running various iterations of NVidia. I'd like
to implement a no-brainer - doubleclick an icon or mapped hotkey (linking to a VBS
file perhaps?).

I think all of the NVidea drivers place that icon in the System tray, therefore it
is a no brainer.
