Question about 'Go Directly to Device Manager'

Bless you for devmgmt.msc. It's been a pain for years. The obvious arrangement for me was to create a shortcut that points to devmgmt.msc and is named "Device Manager." I put it directly under my Start Button. Now when I need it, I tap the Windows button and then the "D" key. Really fast keyboard shortcut; no mousing. Problem is, it doesn't go directly there, 'cuz you have to also hit Enter. Since Documents is also a D, you have to choose which D you want and then hit enter.

On my computer, E wasn't being used, so I renamed the shortcut "E - Device Manager." Now it's a short shortcut. Hit the Windows button and then "E" -- no Enter or anything else required, and the Device Manager opens directly.

If you need to get to the Device Manager that often, then you have other problems.

Kind of agree with that. I find it handy for a couple weeks after installing Windows to get to Device Mgr fast. Since I started using nlite, I have started adding "Services, and Device Mgr" to the Right click Context menu when you rt click on My Computer. The entries are put right in the area along with "Manage" in the Menu.

Thanks for the nice replies. Hey Steve, I like the way you compute. Signature, etc. How do you work that ctrl-alt-D shortcut? I think I'll like it better than my "E-" shortcut. Thanks, -Neil-

Rt Click on your Device Mgr Shortcut, Properties, Shortcut Tab, and put a D in the Shortcut Window in the middle of the open Tab.

Dear Steve,

To paraphrase, you wrote:
> ... put a D in the "Shortcut key"... It's magic. That gets me out of 26 more jams. Thanks, -Neil-
