Who knows?
Here is a list of forty articles by Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?query=Device+manager+reports+unknown+devices&catalog=LCID%3D1033&spid=&mode=r&lsc=0
Myself, I just ignore them. But maybe there is a good answer. I get very sleepy trying
to read all that stuff. Please let me know if you find the best answer... Thanks.

What motherboard do you have or what brand and model of computer do you have. Maybe
we can figure out what device it is by giving us that information.

From the Microsoft site:
How to
troubleshoot unknown devices that are listed in Device Manager in
Windows XP
My method is easier.
Do not remove the yello blop marked device the second time around. If there
is reason the think it hurts something. it may be possible to disable
the device. If everything else seems OK, most likely there is something
about your computer that Windows can not ID properly. So that is my
short answer. The MS long answer is in the link above.

Try right clicking on the device and click on properties and look for device id #
and post back. usually you can identify the device by the id number and search online
for it.
