I just bought a new Dell how do I know if I have a up to date system[ service pack1&2]
? I understand I will need them to use the Service Pack 3

If you just bought a new Dell, it will already have SP2.

Final release version of SP3 is due to be released by Microsoft on Tuesday April

But, as ever, don't rush.
Unless you have real issues you must sort out, wait until its stability, compatibility,
usability problems have been ironed out !
