Waking from hibernation problem

Have XP SP2 with an IBM keyboard & wireless mouse. The spacebar on the keyboard
will wake the computer from standby mode but not from hibernation. Must use the
power button from hibernation. There are no power management settings available
for the keyboard to wake the computer but I don’t see the difference because the
keyboard does wake the computer from standby, just not from hibernation. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Sherri,
What you are seeing is the difference between Standby and Hibernation.
Standby is just a Low Power Mode; Monitor off, HDD stopped, but the Motherboard is
still powered-up, saving the Current State, (what you have running), in RAM Memory.
Takes only a keystroke to reactivate the System.
Hibernation is a different Animal. Before going into Hibernation, the Computer saves
the Current State to the Hibernation File on the Hard Disk, then totally shuts down
the Computer.
On a Desktop Computer, once the Power Supply is shut down, you have to hit the Power
Switch to get the Computer Running again.
Hibernation is, typically, not reccommended for Desktops. It is really intended for
Laptops to save battery power.
Hope this helps.
BW

Thanks BW. I was hoping that there was maybe another option to be able to use the
keyboard.

Some motherboards may still have the option to use a key sequence, but it has to
be enabled in the BIOS, and some had a jumper on the motherboard to enable the option
in the BIOS. This could be found on older motherboards. I haven't seen any newer
motherboards with this option. That's the only way you can/could use the keyboard
to power up the machine. You can check either the manufacturers manual or the motherboard
manual to see if you have these options, but I doubt you do.

You're welcome Sherri.
Have you considered the option to use only Standby rather than Hibernation, thereby
allowing you wake up your computer via the Keyboard.
As I said, Hibernation is not specifically intended for Desk Top use, and, quite
often causes problems.
